I REPRESENT CLIMATE REALITY! Yesterday, I attended the first day of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps training, held in Mpls.
1200 people are attending from all over the world, with 450 from Minnesota alone. MN.
Governor Tom Walz spoke passionately about the bold actions he is leading our local government to take on the issue of climate change, particularly in the areas of wind and solar, as well as my favorite area of interest, agriculture.
Other speakers talked about the marginalized populations such as our American Indian community whose land was taken from them, and why we must provide new job training opportunities to them and others.
Al Gore gave a 2.5 hour slide show presentation about the climate crisis and its solutions. Watching his slide show, which showed the devastation that is taking place all around the world was sobering to say the least. Extreme weather is just the tip of the iceberg. If our current president thinks that immigration is a problem now, just wait until we encounter millions of climate refugees whose countries will be devastated by floods and droughts.
We are facing extreme water shortages (many parts of the world have already been dealing with this issue for a long time, and wars are destined to be fought over water.) The health problems that will affect humans due to climate change go far beyond heat exhaustion, air pollution, and starvation. Viruses and bacteria thrive in warmer climates (think Lyme's and many other conditions). Allergy seasons will be extended far beyond their normal scope and pollen counts will be ten times higher.
Is there hope for humanity? The answer is yes, but none of us can afford to sit out the crisis. 20,000 climate leaders across 150 countries are coming together on these issues. And many more will be trained int he years to come.
Yes, we need policy changes to create sweeping action, but grassroots movements are a force to be reckoned with! So let's get busy, and remember, I created ECO- LEARNING LEGACIES (and my educational tools) to support you in doing your part as an everyday leader of change!
